The River Dee is rated as one of the top four British salmon rivers and is famous the world over for its salmon fishing, but you don't have to pay a fortune to fish on your Deeside holiday. Permits for sea trout and brown trout fishing on the nearby Gairn and Clunie burns can be obtained from the Ballater Countrywear retail outlet and the Braemar Tourist Information office, and trout fishing is also available at several well- stocked fisheries in the area, while coarse fishing is available at Aboyne Loch.
If salmon fishing is what you are after then you will need to book through one of the local estates. Expect to pay anything from £30 to £100 per rod per day depending on the beat and the time of year. More details and booking facilities can be found on the FishDee website, which you can access via our links page.
The Gairn burn is not far outside the village, while the nearest trout fishery is just two miles from the apartment. The Tullich Fishery has 2 lochs stocked with rainbow trout set in a 6 acre estate. Prices for fish caught, released or kept vary.
Aboyne Loch is only a few miles down the road and is open all year round for local and visiting coarse fishermen. Bait, spinning and fly fishing are all allowed with resident species including bream, carp, ide, perch, pike, roach and tench.
